Free discussion on what’s new from Microsoft, Windows 10 — The Trumbull Computer Users Group will hold it's monthly meeting at 7 p.m., in the Trumbull Library, 33 Quality St. The subject of the meeting will be sponsored by the experts from the Microsoft store in Danbury. They will explain the new operating system from Microsoft, Windows 10 and any new products that are out or coming soon. Bring your questions; they have the answers. The meeting is free and you don't have to be a member to attend. Light refreshments will be available.

Retired Teachers Association — The first 2016 general meeting of the Greater Bridgeport Retired Teachers Association (GBRTA) has been scheduled at Testo’s Restaurant in Bridgeport. A new format allows more time for members and guests to socialize. The 9:30 a.m. breakfast buffet of bagels, muffins, scrambled eggs, French toast and bacon will be followed by the 10:45 a.m. business meeting. Payment of $18 per person should be mailed to Barbara Chuga or Kathleen Feller no later than Thursday, March 31.

Scholarship — Trumbull Woman’s Club is offering their 30th annual scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a Trumbull High School female senior. Food drive — Trumbull Community Women will be conducting a food drive for the Trumbull Food Pantry at the Trumbull Library, 33 Quality St., from 9 a.m.-noon. The volunteer group is hoping that a food drive at this time will help to restock the shelves.

Volunteer Firefighter Day — More than 55 volunteer fire departments throughout the state will celebrate the start of National Volunteer Week, April 10-16, by holding open houses. Trumbull Fire Services will be participating in this special event by opening the doors to its firehouses throughout town from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Long Hill Volunteer Fire Company will open Station 1 at 6315 Main St., Station 2 at 5400 Main St., and Station 3 at 4229 Madison Ave.
Nichols Fire Department will open Station 1 at 100 Shelton Road and Station 2 at 582 Booth Hill Road.

Lifeguard course offered — Trumbull Parks & Recreation, 5892 Main St., is offering a lifeguard course. You must attend all classes. Limited space: 12 participants; age: At least 15 ½; fee: $350; time: 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at Hillcrest Middle School. Participants will be asked to swim 300 yards, dive 10 feet and tread water with no hands for two minutes on the first day of the course. No refunds for failures. Bring bathing suit, towel and a lunch.

Scholarship — The Trumbull Rotary Club applications are now being taken for the Len Germano Service-above-Self Scholarships. A total of $16,000 will be awarded to high school seniors who live in Trumbull. “Emphasis will be placed on participation in volunteer activities,” notes Rotary Club President Deborah Cox. “However, the committee will also consider academic performance and financial need.” The minimum scholarship is $1,000. Applications are available at the Trumbull Rotary website, TrumbullRotary.com. Select “Scholarships” under the About Rotary tab. The deadline for submission is Monday, April 18. This year, Trumbull Rotary Club will be celebrating its 50th year of community service in town. Scholarship winners will be among 50 students who will be recognized over the next 12 months.

Tidy Up Trumbull — Do you or someone you know need community service hours, or would you just like to do something good for your community? Consider volunteering with Trumbull Community Women at their annual Tidy Up Trumbull event. Volunteers will meet at Twin Brooks Park at 9 a.m., and groups will be sent out to pick up trash at various Trumbull locations such as parks, parking lots and roadsides. Bus trip to Citi-Field — A benefit for the CT Fallen Heroes Foundation bus trip to Citi-Field is planned for Friday, April 29; San Francisco Giants vs. New York Mets. The bus leaves exit 35 commuter lot off I-95 in Milford at 3:30 p.m., with the game starting at 7:05.
Price is $80 per person and includes luxury coach, ticket and Mets t-shirt.

Park stickers now available — Trumbull Parks and Recreation Department has announced that 2016 park stickers are now available at 5892 Main St., during regular business hours. Park stickers are available to Trumbull residents at no charge. A copy of the current motor vehicle registration is required. Non-residents may purchase a park sticker for $112. The 2016 park stickers will be required for all Trumbull parks properties effective Sunday, May 15.

Literary competition — Writers from elementary grade 3 to adult of all ages are invited to submit previously unpublished works in the categories of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Once received, the entries are sorted and distributed to the panel of judges with the names of the authors removed for anonymity. All winning entries will be published in the 2016 edition of PENWORKS, the literary magazine of the Trumbull Arts Festival. Every year the winning writers have the pleasure of becoming published authors. Substance abuse support group — The Community Addiction & Recovery Education & Support (C.A.R.E.S.)
