Make-A-Wish to unveil Monster truck at this year's Walk for Wishes

This Saturday, the annual Walk for Wishes at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo will benefit the Trumbull-based Make-A-Wish Connecticut organization. The organization will also be granting a special wish for a young boy and unveiling a monster truck that has been transformed into the Wish Truck.

Make-A-Wish Connecticut works to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

At this year’s event, a 3-year-old boy named Ethan will be granted his wish to go to Walt Disney World. It will be delivered to him by 1,000 guests in attendance, and by Wish Kid Isabelle, who was surprised with her wish to go on a Disney Cruise at the Walk for Wishes last year. Isabelle will pay it forward with the help of all in attendance and make another historical wish come true. Guests are encouraged to wear anything superhero-related. Ethan and his brother are avid superhero fans.

New to this year’s event will be the first official use of Make-A-Wish Connecticut’s recently donated Monster Truck, known as the Wish Truck. Donated by Make-A-Wish Connecticut board member Mark Haversat and his team at Robins Tesar Inc., the monster truck will be unveiled for the first time at the 2015 Walk for Wishes out in front of the zoo and used as an event stage to conduct the opening ceremonies and official walk send-off.

“We are so excited to have the Wish Truck at our walk this year, the first event it has ever been revealed at,” said President and CEO Pam Keough. “Mark and his team did an incredible job in designing it, and even went so far as to implement a new sound system so we can use the truck as a sound system and event stage anywhere we take it. It’s truly a unique element to bring to events like the walk, and we are very fortunate to have a friend like Mark always thinking of how we can further our brand in the community.”

Haversat, who lives in Monroe, joined the board of directors of Make-A-Wish Connecticut just a few months ago.

“Bringing the Wish Truck to life has been a very rewarding experience for me, my staff and some of our valued vendors,” said Haversat. “The instant enthusiasm that is being generated around it is overwhelming. I am proud to be a part of the Make-A-Wish family and look forward to seeing all the excitement and joy it will bring to children and adults alike.”

Guests of all ages are encouraged to join the Walk for Wishes Saturday, May 9, at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the walk will begin at 5:30, followed by the Wish Celebration at 6:30. Guests may register in advance at For those who do not register in advance, a donation will be accepted at day-of registration on Saturday.
