On Feb. 6, , the staff and some residents of Maefair Health Care Center, Trumbull, wore red to help spread awareness and to show their support of the American Heart Association’s efforts to save lives. The staff also held a fund-raiser, selling American Heart Association “Red Dress” pins, red bracelets, and paper hearts.
According to the American Heart Association, “Each year, one-in-three women die of heart disease and stroke. But we can change that because 80% of cardiac events can be prevented with education and lifestyle changes.
When it comes to beating heart disease and stroke, change can be the cure. To save lives and raise awareness of this serious issue, the American Heart Association launched Go Red For Women. And the red dress has become the iconic symbol of our battle against heart disease and stroke in women.”
The Go Red for Women campaign was launched in 2003 and has made strides in reducing the number of women who have lost their lives due to heart attack and stroke.
