Jewish Family Service earns re-accreditation

Trumbull resident James Grutzmacher, the Co Chairman of the Board of Jewish Family Service, has announced that the local social service agency has been re-accredited. This most recent accreditation remains in effect until
December 31, 2018 .

According to Grutzmacher, “we are very pleased that JFS has once again earned accreditation. It speaks to the quality of the services provided by the agency. Gaining accreditation means that our agency meets or exceeds the highest standards set in the nation for social service agencies”.

Grutzmacher went on to say, “Re-accreditation was a long and in depth process. It took Jewish Family Service six months to prepare a comprehensive self study that not only looked at services such as our counseling and adoption programs, but also addressed key areas such as agency governance, finances, personnel and safety”. The process also involved an on-site visit.

Two social service professionals, an Executive Director from Florida and a Program Supervisor from New Orleans, spent days at the agency reading records and meeting with staff, clients and Board of Directors.
Based on the results of the self study and the site visit, it was determined that Jewish Family Service met or exceeded all applicable standards set by the Council on Accreditation.

The Council on Accreditation is an international, independent, nonprofit, human service accrediting organization. Founded in 1977 by the Child Welfare League of America and Family Service America (now the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities), its mission is to partner with human service organizations worldwide to improve service delivery outcomes by developing, applying, and promoting accreditation standards. Their mission is to promote excellence in the delivery of human services globally, resulting in the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.

In addition to accreditation, Jewish Family Service is also licensed by the State of Connecticut as an adoption and foster care agency, a psychiatric clinic for children and a psychiatric clinic for adults. Located at 325 Reef Road, JFS has been serving all members of our community since 1922.
