Aquarion Water Company offers rain barrels

Aquarion Water Company announced today that it will be offering for sale, recycled rain barrels to its Connecticut customers as part of the company’s water conservation efforts. Rain barrels are an efficient and effective way to store rain water for later use by collecting rain and runoff from a roof or downspout. They provide a free, ready source of water for filling watering cans, connecting a garden hose, feeding a drip irrigation system and other outdoor chores.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our customers the opportunity to conserve water and save money through the use of rain barrels,” said Charles V. Firlotte, Aquarion President and CEO. “Using rain barrels can also help to mitigate pollution in Connecticut’s water supplies by limiting storm water runoff.”

Just one 60-gallon recycled food-grade barrel can consistently irrigate a 100 square foot garden. “Rain barrels can help to greatly reduce water consumption during the warmer summer months,” said Firlotte.

Aquarion is offering rain barrels to its customers at a cost of $75, compared to the retail price of $125. To take advantage of this community program discount, visit Aquarion’s website, or call Skyjuice New England at 1-207-363-1505.

The deadline for ordering is Saturday, May 3. The barrels, which fit in the back seat of most cars, will be available for pick-up on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at Trumbull Town Hall, 5866 Main St.
