Gymnastics: Samantha Markland excels at Nationals

Samantha Markland is a senior at Trumbull High and will be attending the University of Delaware in the fall.

Samantha Markland from Trumbull has been doing gymnastics since she was 4 years old.

A consistent stand out her entire competitive career for her club team Next Dimension Gymnastics, Markland has been a state and regional champion at many levels as well as the anchor for the championship winning Trumbull High gymnastics team these past two seasons.

After finishing fifth in the all around at the Regional Championships, Markland earned the right to represent Connecticut and Region 6 at the 2018 USA Gymnastics Level 9 Eastern National Championships in the Gordon Field House at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester (N.Y.) on May 5.

Markland excelled, as she scored a 9.1 on the vault, an 8.7 on the bars, an 8.95 on the floor and medaled on the balance beam with a score of 9.15 which was good for fifth place.

Markland also finished 10th in the all around of the Senior 8 age group with a 35.9 against the top level 9 gymnasts from regions 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Markland trains five days a week at Next Dimension Gymnastics in Trumbull.
