Trumbull High student hospitalized after being struck by car on campus

A 16-year-old Trumbull High student has been hospitalized after he was accidentally struck by a vehicle driven by another student this afternoon.

According to Deputy Chief Glenn Byrnes, the incident occurred on a driveway adjacent to the school that connects Trumbull High School and Hillcrest Middle School.. An officer who was on duty in the school parking lot summoned EMS and the student was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center where he is being treated.

The Traffic Division is investigating and has learned that several students witnessed the incident. According to witnesses, the student was laying in the roadway as the approaching vehicle stopped and the driver exited the car. A female passenger, believing that the boy had moved, drove the vehicle forward and struck the victim, who was still on the ground in front of the car.

All students who were involved remained at the scene and provided information to police and school officials.

No one has been charged in the incident and the investigation continues.
