Girls soccer: St. Joseph defeats McMahon, 2-0

Hailey Vechiarelli and Alexis Mason scored first half goals and Veronica O’Rouke came away with eight saves to lead St. Joseph to a 2-1 FCIAC quarterfinal victory over Brien McMahon on Friday.

The No. 2 seed Cadets improved to 12-1-4 and will meet No. 3 seed Fairfield Warde, in the semifinals at Kristine Lilly Field at Wilton High on Monday at 7 p.m.

The Mustangs defeated No. 6 Trumbull, 2-0, in their quarterfinal match.

McMahon’s Olivia Leone scored the Senators goal.

St. Joseph’s Maddie Fried had an assist.

Tatiana Artis had six saves for No. 7 McMahon (10-5-2).

No. 4 Ridgefield (12-2-3) will play No. 1 Staples (13-3-1) in the first semifinal at 5 p.m.

Staples defeated Wilton, 2-0.

Ridgefield topped Darien, 1-0.
