Girls basketball: St. Joseph breaks out early, defeats Newtown

The St. Joseph High girls basketball team built up an early 12-point lead and rolled to a 36-26 victory over host Newtown High on Thursday.

Coach Chris Lindwall’s Cadets are now 2-0 on the season. Newtown is 1-1.

Christina Crocco scored 11 points and had nine rebounds for the winners.

Megan Robertson had nine points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Lauren Haverl added five points and Ashley Lynch four.

Lynch had five assists and two steals.

Rylee Mulligan scored 11 points to lead the Nighthawks.
