  • Katherine Baylis of Christian Heritage; Erin Garrity of Trumbull High School; William Mercier of St. Joseph High School; Brittany Santiago of Derby High School; and Anna DePasquale of Shelton High School celebrate their DAR Good Citizen Awards at Huntington Congregational Church in Shelton on March 8

The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently recognized five area high school seniors as recipients of this year’s DAR Good Citizen awards. The Good Citizen award winners from Trumbull included Erin Garrity, Trumbull High School; William Mercier, St. Joseph High School; and Katherine Baylis, Christian Heritage.

Two other local students — Anna De Pasquale of Shelton High School and Brittany Santiago of Derby High School — were also honored at an awards ceremony at the Huntington Congregational Church in Shelton on March 8.

The students were joined by their parents and guidance counselors at the ceremony.

These five high school seniors were chosen by their respective high schools for demonstrating qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism to an outstanding degree.

The DAR Good Citizen Award is a national award intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.

The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools that are in good standing with the Connecticut State Board of Education. United States citizenship is not required.
