The fog of the playoff race has cleared and the quarterfinal matches are set for the FCIAC boys basketball tournament on Saturday, Feb. 27. Quarterfinal games will begin at noon at Fairfield-Ludlowe High School.
Here’s the official quarterfinal schedule:
No. 3 Stamford (11-5) vs. No. 6 Westhill (10-6) , Noon
No. 2 Trumbull (14-2) vs. No. 7 Ridgefield (10-6), 2 p.m.
No. 4 Warde (10-6) vs. No. 5 Wilton (10-6), 5 p.m.
No. 1 Danbury (15-1) vs. No. 8 Ludlowe (9-7), 7 p.m.
It was a wild Wednesday to cap a crazy regular season, with the Westhill Vikings, Ridgefield Tigers, and Ludlowe Falcons earning the final three playoff spots.
At the top of the standings, Danbury clinched the No. 1 seed with a 66-51 win over Staples, while Trumbull took the No. 2 seed with a 61-50 win over Darien.
Stamford had already clinched the No. 3 seed before the start of Wednesday’s games.
Westhill earned a playoff berth with an 82-56 win over Central, while Ridgefield clinched a spot by beating Stamford, 43-38.
Those wins, along with Wilton’s 76-53 victory over Norwalk, forged a four-way tie for fourth place, as Warde, Wilton, Westhill, and Ridgefield all 10-6 in league play.
Warde and Wilton were both 2-1 against the other three teams in that tie and are seeded higher. Warde is No. 4 and Wilton is No. 5 based on Warde’s victory over Wilton this season.
Westhill takes the No. 6 seed based on its win over Ridgefield, while Ridgefield is the No. 7 seed.
Ludlowe defeated McMahon 75-59 on Wednesday to secure the No. 8 seed
