Trumbull’s Drew Thompson ’18 from Fairfield Prep was named Southern Connecticut Conference Runner of the Year for his strong cross country performance this year.
Joining the team this year (after playing soccer his freshman year), Thompson realized top times in key races: Ninth in New England (16:33.3), seventh at the State Open (16:18), fourth in Class LL (16:05) and first in the SCC (15:44).
He was also named 2015 Register Area Boys Cross Country MVP and a Hearst Connecticut Media Boys Cross Country All-Star. No other Jesuit had ever won the Southern Connecticut Conference championship meet before Thompson did in October, with a personal best time of 15:44 in the 5K race at Hammonasset State Park in Madison.
“He’s a real competitor,” coach Bob Ford Jr. said. “I think every kid wants to win, but he is also willing to do the work. He has very good staying power.”
Thompson is a Summa Cum Laude student, enrolled in a challenging course load. He has volunteered as a host at Prep’s annual Open House, and volunteered with the Nichols Improvement Association (NIA) in Trumbull, which is a non-profit organization of volunteers chartered with helping to preserve the heritage and distinctive character of the community. He has provided service at NIA events such as community races.
