FCIAC girls soccer quarterfinals begin Friday

The St. Joseph Cadets finished off a perfect regular season with a win over Trinity on Tuesday and will now set their sights on the FCIAC girls soccer championships as the league playoffs begin later this week.

The Cadets (16-0-0) earned the No. 1 seed, with the defending champion Warde Mustangs (14-1-1) taking the second spot. In their regular-season meeting, St. Joe’s defeated Warde, 2-1.

The Ridgefield Tigers (11-2-3), 3-0 winners over Stamford today, took the No. 3 seed, while Greenwich (11-3-2), which beat New Canaan 2-0, is the No. 4 seed.

The battle for the fifth through eighth seeds was extremely close, with Staples and Darien clinching playoff bids on the final day. Staples defeated Danbury and Darien defeated Trumbull, both by 2-0 scores.

The Ludlowe Falcons (10-5-1) had already punched their ticket, but wrapped up the No. 5 seed with a 3-2 win over Brien McMahon on Tuesday.

Wilton, Darien and Staples all finished with records of 9-6-1. Wilton earned the No. 6 seed based on its 1-0 victories over Darien and Staples during the regular season. Darien, which beat Staples 2-0 this season, is the No. 7 seed, and Staples is No. 8.
