Steve Katz

Author Steve Katz, founding member of the band Blood, Sweat & Tears, will appear at the Trumbull Library, 33 Quality St., on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m.  Katz will discuss his recently published memoir and share some music as part of the Trumbull Library’s 40th anniversary celebration.

Katz is the recipient of three Grammies (10 nominations), three gold records, one platinum record, and one quadruple platinum platter, not to mention three gold singles with the band Blood, Sweat & Tears.  Steve has sold close to 29 million records.  He has partied with Elizabeth Taylor and Groucho Marx, dined with Rudolf Nureyev, conversed with Martin Luther King, Jr. and Tennessee Williams, hung out with Andy Warhol, and played music with everyone from Mose Allison to Jimi Hendrix.

Library Director Susan Horton commented, “We are thrilled Steve has agreed to appear at the Trumbull Library in conjunction with our 40th anniversary celebration.  As an original member of the band Blood, Sweat, & Tears and a pop culture icon for decades, Steve will provide a unique perspective of the last 40 years.”

There is no charge for the performance.  Registration can be done online through the library’s website: trumbullct-library.org.  Katz’s memoir will be available for sale and he will allow time for signing.

Steve Katz’s performance from 1:30-3:30 will be followed by a 4 p.m. proclamation by Trumbull First Selectman, Tim Herbst.

As a treat for the children on the day of the anniversary celebration, the library has invited back Music Mandy.   Kara Canney, the library’s Youth Services Coordinator, commented “Mandy Cook, a Trumbull resident, has been entertaining, educating and providing music programs in the library for years.  We are happy to have her join us during this special Sunday celebration.”   Admittance is free and no registration is required to attend Mandy Cook’s performance.
