First Selectman Timothy Herbst, the Republican nominee for state treasurer, reacted Tuesday morning, Oct. 7, to news that State Treasurer Denise Nappier dropped out of their debate.
Herbst has been publicly calling for Nappier to debate him for weeks. And just when it looked like it was going to happen, the four-term state treasurer, has decided not to participate, as CTNewsJunkie.com posted on Twitter:
.@denisenappier just dropped out of the one and only debate of the campaign. Her campaign is citing “personal reasons.”

The Trumbull Times was at a groundbreaking with Herbst when he heard the news on Tuesday.
“The fact that a 16-year treasurer will not appear in public and defend her record is beyond troubling,” Herbst told The Times. “Denise needs to stop ducking debates, ignoring the media, avoiding the public. She needs to come out in public and answer for her record and defend her record. If you’ve done a good job, you’ve got nothing to worry about.”
Herbst still attended the debate at Hartford Public Library Tuesday night. He continues to challenge Nappier to agree to another debate.
