The Trumbull Rotary Club saw a need for directional signs, when several members visited Stern Village and could not find the entrance to the Community Room, where they were to meet. Holly Sutton-Darr, President of the Trumbull Rotary Club and other Rotarians, thought Stern Village could use directional signs.
Harriet Polansky, Executive Director of the Trumbull Housing Authority/Stern Village, jumped on the opportunity to request the necessary funding for the signs. Upon the approval of the Rotary, the THA purchased 17 directional signs for Stern Village.
Rotarian Joe Brenneis from Minuteman Press, designed and produced professional, reflective signs and provided the metal posts for each of them. The Rotary Logo is also placed on prominent signs leading to the Community Room and THA office.
Prior to the installation of the signs, it was difficult to locate a resident’s apartment, due to the layout of the unit. This presented a potentially dangerous situation for the residents when caregivers, deliveries from pharmacies, taxi drivers and first responders, couldn’t find the right apartment.
Polansky has made significant strides to ensure the well-being of the 186 residents living in Stern Village and according to Polansky, “Words can’t express our gratitude to the Trumbull Rotary for providing us with funds to create the signs. Having the signs have averted potentially serious time sensitive issues for our residents and Trumbull’s First Responders. The signs have made an immediate impact on locating resident’s apartments.”
“We are delighted to help the residents of Stern Village. The signs represent a small initiative that has made a huge difference,” said Holly Sutton-Darr, President of the Trumbull Rotary Club.
