Following a banner weekend in March which included three sold-out performances and many special visitors, the cast and crew of Trumbull High School’s RENT: School Edition received more good news on Sunday when the Connecticut High School Musical Theater Awards announced its 2014 nominees.

Trumbull has been nominated in eleven categories including Outstanding Production of the Year.

The highly-publicized production of RENT: School Edition entertained record-breaking crowds and welcomed the deceased playwright Jonathan Larson’s father and sister, Al and Julie Larson, at opening night. Other visitors to the shows included members of the American Theater Wing executive board (former and present), a group of Larson’s life-long friends, and several Broadway producers.

This is THS’s fifth year involved with the Connecticut High School Musical Theater Awards-past wins have included those for Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Costume Design, Outstanding Lighting Design, Outstanding Ensemble and Outstanding Lead Actor.

The 2014 winners will be announced at a gala event at the Palace Theater in Waterbury on June 2. The event, akin to the Tony Awards for high school theater, will feature student performances in addition to awards presentations. As nominees for Outstanding Production, the entire cast of RENT: School Edition will get to reprise their roles in one company number. Michael Ell and Ava Gallo, who portrayed Mark and Mimi respectively, will also perform as nominees for Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress.
