Mardi Gras dance

The Armenian Church of the Holy Ascension Church Hall, 1460 Huntington Tpke., in Trumbull, Mardi Gras dance Saturday, March 1, at 7 p.m. A Middle-Eastern music, food and dance event will feature live music by the Harry Bedrossian Ensemble. Film and dance party

Congregation B’nai Torah, 5700 Main St., will be presenting an evening of film, music and dancing Saturday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. The film, Hava Nagila will be shown followed by a dance party. A documentary on the history, mystery, and meaning of the ubiquitous Jewish standard, Hava Nagila, that follows the around-the-world journey of the song from the Ukraine to YouTube. Open to the community. Admission: $10, refreshments included. Following the film will be a dance party with dance lessons provided by Andrea Rosner. Reservations are requested but not required. CANCELED — Mardi Gras/Chili Cook-off

Unity Hill United Church of Christ, 364 White Plains Road will host a Mardi Gras/Chili Cook-off Tuesday, March 4, at 6:30 p.m. Doors open for the contestants at 6 p.m. Get out your favorite recipes for chili. Three special guests will judge the chili and there will be prizes for the winners. Grand Chili Champion gets $100; Best Decorated Table receives $50. Sign up if you are entering chili by calling the church office at 203-374-8822. Bring your family, friends and neighbors. Free samples.

 

Ashes-to-Go Ash Wednesday

On Ash Wednesday, March 5, the priests from the Episcopal churches of Trumbull: Christ Church, Tashua; Grace Church, Main Street and Trinity Episcopal Church, Nichols will be on the sidewalk near the bus stop outside of Starbuck’s in Trumbull Center from 12:30 to 2 p.m., and apply ashes on the foreheads and offer a quick prayer to any passer-by interested in participating in the Christian tradition of Ash Wednesday.

Ashes-to- Go is an attempt to reach out to people who may not have time to come into church for the traditional Ash Wednesday service.

Giant indoor tag sale

St. Catherine of Siena will hold a giant indoor tag sale Saturday, March 15, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Parish Center, 210 Shelton Road. Attic treasures, new vendors, breakfast, lunch and snacks available for purchase from Vazzy’s Café. Also, this year they will feature corned beef and cabbage. Come for a day of fun, browsing and buying. Church sponsored raffle. All proceeds raised benefit the church.

 

Purim Carnival

Congregation B’nai Torah, 5700 Main St., Purim Carnival Saturday, March 16, from noon-2 p.m. A family fun day including various skill games, prizes, crafts and face painting by JeriAnn Geller. Arrive in costume and get free game tickets. Refreshments and lunch available. Fellowship meeting/covered dish luncheon

The Women’s Fellowship of Unity Hill United Church of Christ, 364 White Plains Road, will hold their monthly meeting Thursday, March 20, at noon. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish or pay $7 at the door. Program to feature decorating a ceramic bunny with a springtime collage with Dawn Brezina (All About Ceramics).
