Special Olympics Connecticut proudly announces that Catherine E.M. Kortlandt, a Connecticut native who resides in Larchmont, NY, has joined its Board of Directors.
Kortlandt was raised in Trumbull and Fairfield, where her parents, Herb and Jennifer Moorin, still reside.
From an early age, they instilled in their daughter lessons of philanthropy and community service through their example.
From early on, Kortlandt had a personal connection to Special Olympics — her sister Jennifer is a long-time participant and a member of the Special Olympics Fairfield team.
“I am honored to be volunteering with Special Olympics Connecticut with its longstanding dedication to supporting an integrating people with intellectual disabilities all over the world,” Kortlandt said.
An active member of her community, Kortlandt founded the Flint Park Conservancy, Ltd. — a nonprofit organization providing political and financial support for a large community park — and served as its president.
Kortlandt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Yale University, where she received a Fulbright Scholarship to the Netherlands and earned a Certificate in European Community Law from the University of Amsterdam, and a Juris Doctor from Columbia University Law School, where she graduated with honors.
She was also Treasurer for the Community Unitarian Church, White Plains.
Kortlandt has extensive experience in corporate law, litigation, and community service.
She is currently Senior Assistant General Counsel and Managing Attorney with Parxair, Inc., a specialty chemical and Fortune 300 Company.
In this role, she manages all aspects of commercial law, including contract, energy and antitrust for the business.
