The Golden Eagle Marching Band placed third overall at the Bands of America regional competition with a score of 81.6. The competition, which included a field of 26 bands all over the Atlantic coastline from Connecticut to Florida, was held at the campus of the University of Delaware Oct. 16-17.

The first place winner, hailing all the way from Florida, was a mere five-tenths of a point ahead of the Golden Eagles.

In order to be able to compete at this level, the students spent extra hours practicing on top of their already full schedule.

On Friday night, they practiced at their hotel — in the parking lot — until after 10 p.m.

The band didn’t rest much as they were up again Saturday morning for a practice before their preliminary performance at 9:45 a.m.

Finals and awards were after 11 p.m. which was followed by an encore performance from the first-place winning band.

The Golden Eagles were the only band that proceeded back to the stands to cheer on the winning performers.

“That speaks volumes for the level of integrity and class shown by this group of students, led by our band director Mr. Horton,” said parent Kelly Targowski.

The band will compete three more times this season in Naugatuck at the MAC championships, Oct. 23-25; followed by New Britain in the US Bands NE Regionals; and at MetLIfe Stadium in the US Bands Nationals.

Residents can see them next locally during Trumbull football’s halftime show on Friday, Oct. 30.

Note: Trumbull will be performing it’s last ‘local’ show this weekend at the MAC Championships at Naugatuck High School.  The Golden Eagles performance time is scheduled for around 8 p.m.
