A Bridgeport man, arrested Thursday for sexual assault, will be held in custody at the request of the federal Department of Homeland Security.
Hilario Perez-Canalizo, 31, of 87 Atwater St., Bridgeport, was arrested by Fairfield police and charged with second-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor after police said he was found to have had oral sex and sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl.
Police said July 26 that the girl reportedly met Perez-Canalizo about one week ago at a gym in Trumbull.
On Thursday night, July 25, she was reported missing by a Fairfield family member with whom she has been staying. The girl had last been seen in Fairfield, police said.
Police searched and found the victim and Perez at Owen Fish Park on Stratfield Road. They were both interviewed and it was determined an assault had taken place two days prior to this report at Perez-Canalizo’s residence in Bridgeport.
Perez-Canalizo was taken into custody, transported to Fairfield police headquarters and processed. Bond was set at a $100,000.
At 2 a.m. Friday, July 26. a Homeland Security agent contacted Fairfield police inquiring about Perez, and conducted a phone interview with him. Homeland Security faxed an Immigration Detainer for Perez-Canalizo.
Perez-Canalizo was held overnight appeared in court Friday morning.
